Merry Christmas!

Well, today is the last day of school for the students and faculty of Mt. Juliet High before Christmas break, and we couldn't be more excited to have a merry Christmas and ring in 2012! Finals began yesterday with students taking their first and second block exams and will end today by finishing with third and fourth block's. This past month has been very busy for the Mt. Juliet FFA Chapter, but also a bonding time for the officers and members. We held our annual chapter Christmas party on the eighth and watched Elf to help get members and advisors in the Christmas spirit. On the thirteenth we held our officer Christmas party and played our annual "dirty santa" with some very nice gifts for Mr. Willoughby and Mr. Farris. Opening and Closing Ceremonies and Parli Pro are gearing up for their competitions in January and are excited to say they are both doing very well in practices. Dairy Judging has also gotten underway along with a couple of our state convention contests: Ag Issues and Cooperative Challenge.  But for now, time to chill out for a while. The members of the Mt. Juliet FFA Chapter are always ready to work, but it's nice to have a break every now and then. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Gobble, Gobble!

Any turkey can tango, any turkey can dance, any turkey can tango, if he has the chance! No, it's not a turkey motivational speech or a game; it's an actual dance! This dance is one of the ice breakers the officers did at our chapter meeting this month and got the whole chapter, not only participating in it that night, but also singing it over and over again the next day! While this was one of our more entertaining events, A LOT of exciting events have happened since we last blogged. Our Dairy Foods team received 2nd in state this year, our land judging team received 15th in the middle region, our Horse Judging team received 8th in state, and Ag Sales received 6th in the middle region. In national news, our marketing team received the silver emblem at national convention this year, making Mt. Juliet a very proud chapter! As for public speaking contests, we had wonderful speakers competing, and the freshmen showed great potential. In district, Erin Hardin received 1st in extemporanious and moved on to sectionals where she took 1st again, and recieved a very well earned 3rd at regionals; Kayla Graf also received 1st in Prepared and 4th at sectionals, Lizzy Boeglin participated in Job Interview and received 4th, and Loren Campbell competed in Creed Speaking and earned 4th.  Parli-pro has gotten started and the team is working hard in order to be ready for their contest in January. But now it's time for FFA members to take a deep breath and relax. Today is the last day of school before Thanksgiving break and all of us FFA members can take a quick breather before finishing up our classes and getting ready to sign up for state convention teams!

Back to School!

Our FFA Chapter is kicking off the new school year with our annual cook out at Charlie Daniels Park, August 30th from 5-8pm. I hope everyone comes out to have some fun! Our Junior Officer applications were due this past wednesday and interviews will be held on Aug. 22nd afternoon and Aug. 23rd morning. Please see one of the advisors to sign up for a time. We've been getting our contests started up with the Marketing team practicing for Nationals and our Dairy Foods & Horse Judging Teams getting ready for State. Tshirts, polos, and hoodies are being discussed at the moment. If anyone has any ideas see the committee or an advisor. Have a great rest of the week!
